Submerged in God
Aug 04, 2010
Here’s
another way to view your life as a believer—submerged in God! Here’s how it works. Before his ascension, Jesus told his followers, “John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit…" He used the word baptize both times: for water and for the Holy Spirit. Technically, the word “baptize” means to dip, immerse or submerge. The entire body is submerged under water to symbolize the entire body’s death or burial along with Christ’s death and resurrection.
You probably grasp the idea of water submersion, but what about Holy Spirit 'submersion'? If water baptism symbolizes completely dying to your old self, Holy Spirit baptism represents completely living under the power and direction of God. To fully accept Christ’s sacrifice also means to fully accept his controlling presence. If you were once submerged in that watery grave, you are now to live a life submerged in the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is easy to accept water baptism to take care of your past and then stop there. Move into the rest of God’s plan and live the rest of your life in complete surrender and control by him.
Jesus is both your Savior and Lord—he died your death and now lays claim on your life. He gave all that you might live—live completely for him!
