Streams of Mercy
Jun 30, 2009
The merciful person is so blessed because he has received mercy from God and has mercy for others! At Crossweave, we talk a lot about both vertical mercy (mercy from God) and horizontal mercy (mercy for others). Remember that mercy can be as simple as giving a phone call to encourage during the week and as complicated as building an orphanage in Africa. Don't think that what you can do or actually do is too small to be viewed as mercy in God's eyes—even giving a glass of water to someone in need is like doing it for Jesus Himself!
When God shows us mercy and saves our souls by cleansing us with the water of life, He also empowers us to show others mercy and share that loving kindness with the world. The Lord has transformed us into creatures of mercy that are intended to perform acts of mercy toward others in order to transform them through the gospel. Rather than looking to ourselves to find a guide for mercy to follow, trusting in our sinfully flawed ideas of who deserves that grace, God intends for us to look to Himself. Cast yourselves on the mercies of God, that we may be merciful to others—and be supremely blessed!
