All, Everything, 100 Percent

Aug 18, 2010

When Communion Candlesyou are sold on an idea, you put your all, everything, 100 percent into it.  I have an admiration for those who demonstrate this attitude in, say, an MLM scheme (although I’m not into any of that myself).  All you hear is talk about “the business” or how to be “financially independent”.  Their passion and conviction come through in every aspect of their lives at work, at home, and in every conversation.

This is exactly what Jesus had in mind when he instituted what we now know as Communion or the Lord's supper with his disciples in the upper room.  His sacrifice for mankind on the cross is not to be taken lightly.  It is to integrate itself into the life of every believer.  This is why he said to his disciples, to eat the bread and drink the wine.  He could have said to simply touch, smell, or look upon these emblems.  But no—he wanted to demonstrate that these symbols were assimilated into the body by the digestive process.  The meaning and significance of his sacrifice was to affect the believer’s entire being permanently!  Not part time, not optional, not whenever it was convenient.  It was something to stay until that grand reunion in the heavenly kingdom.

Is this the case in your life right now?  The next time you celebrate Communion, think about God influencing every decision, every activity, every thought.  Start now, or the next conversation, email, or FaceBook post.  His all-encompassing sacrifice calls for your all, your everything, your 100 percent.
