FAQ

What is Crossweave all about?

Crossweave is all about people—people drawn together by the cross.  It is the cross—a symbol of God’s greatest act of love—that attracts followers.

Crossweave is all about people caring for people—a community of lives woven together in compassion and service 24-7.

Crossweave is all about people from different ethnic and social backgrounds after the model portrayed in scripture—brought together by the drawing power of the cross.

Why the focus on the cross?

The historical event of Christ’s death on the cross in the Middle East some 2,000 years ago is the culmination of a plan to restore relations between the human race and its Creator.  It is the apex of God’s true character—of love and sacrifice for every human being.  This is the “God-shaped hole” that Blaise Pascal refers to that no other substitutes can fill.  At Crossweave, we believe that true fulfillment and meaning in life are only achieved through the cross and all it represents.  It is this awareness that draws people in and compels one to live for God.

What is the Crossweave definition of "church"?

Church is people.  Not a building.  Not a meeting.  At Crossweave, we follow what we call the “upside-down” church idea.  The focus is on people interacting with people during the week based on the model in the Book of Acts where the apostles spent most of their time with people on a daily basis.  Small group meetings are an essential component of the church for Bible study, encouragement and prayer.  People stay connected throughout the week helping one another in their concerns and issues.  The website is a ‘virtual gathering place’ where people meet and pray.  See article Defining What Church Is.

What do you mean by 'upside-down' church?

Traditionally, church is the worship service—typically an hour or two on the weekend.  Resources, personnel and time during the week have to do with preparing the various aspects of this event such as the music, programming, preaching, etc. At Crossweave, it is the other way around—‘upside-down’.  Church is people relating to people throughout the week forming a network of caring, spiritual nurture, ministry, and reaching out to others.  The power of the cross is woven through the lives of people who are committed to living their convictions 24-7.  When the weekend comes around, God’s goodness through each day of the week explodes in an awesome worship experience!  This is also a time to get ‘recharged’ and equipped to do church all over again the rest of the week.

Will the worship gatherings be boring?

Absolutely not!  Crossweave may stress the importance of experiencing church on a daily basis, but this does not mean that the public worship gatherings won't be relevant and captivating every weekend.  The richness of experiencing God's daily presence through acts of compassion, the study of His word, and his leading in every facet of life only heightens this group experience.

Why Multiethnic?

Jesus' instruction to make disciples, baptize and teach is very explicit: to reach all nations—all people groups.  The demographic landscape of North County, like most metropolitan areas in the United States, is becoming more and more ethnically diverse.  Fulfilling this commission to spread the gospel within the context of the ethnic diversity in our communities is a mandate right out of the Bible.  Crossweave is as intentional as Wal-mart is in its commitment to diversity among its employees and management.  See article Why Go Multiethnic?
